This is the entrance to the Resort on Tortola. We were intrigued by this bridge...what did it connect? The answer was NOTHING!
Bette had booked us into the 'Jacuzzi Jr. Suites' but when we checked in they put us in a bungalo right on the beach! This turned out to be an excellent change!
Here's Bette all smiles. I took this from the beach...we were about 100 feet from the waters edge and listened to the waves all night!
The resort was built up into the hills with lots of very nice houses and suites overlooking the bay. Getting to them was a hike and driving a car up the hillside an adventure.
These are the units where we were originally supposed to stay. It was steeper than it looks and a walk to the beach wouldn't have been a spur of the moment decision!
This is looking out at Long Bay from our porch! What a beautiful view!
The first day we arrived the seas were still rough from a storm that had passed through a couple days before. It made for some spectacular waves and great body surfing!
The attitude of most of the staff was pretty aloof. Peter, the head Chef, was the exception! He made a point of talking with us whenever we saw him. And given his responsibility included 3 restaurants on the resort, that was often!
This was taken from the bottom of the steps off our deck. The water was 70ish and the air was around 85 all the time!
We often had breakfast at the 1748 house. Sitting at our table, this is looking out at the bay!
We took an all day Sailing/Snorkeling cruise on the White Squall II. Highlight of the day was 'The Baths'. This was a cool beach and rock area where snorkeling and swimming was the order of the day.
Looking south from in front of our Cottage!
Long Bay has a very nice pool with a slide and a hot tub. What we liked best was the swim-up bar which also served great flying fish sandwichs, hot dogs and burgers. Along with a frozen Mango Smoothie it was where we often had lunch.
We saw goats, cows, burros and chickens all over the island. Often in the middle of the road....
We spend a day driving around...on the right side of the car but the wrong side of the road! We had breakfast in a Marinia at Sopers Hole. There were about a dozen 48' Cats moored here...all available for charter and all looking very nice!
Bette got a great picture of a Pelican. They were a riot to watch. Cruising like fighters and diving like bombers.
On board the White Squall II
Sunset on Long Bay beach. The end to a perfect day...the start of a perfect evening!
