Sean, Tiana, Allie and Bette looking for baggage claim at Las Vegas International Airport
The arrival area of McCarran International is home to several large sandstone sculptures including this lizard making friends with Dave!
We rented a wonderful 3 bedroom house in Henderson, NV. Situated across from a golf course with views of downtown Vegas and the mountains, this is a picture of the pool and hot tub.
The house was situated around a central courtyard with a fireplace and a small dining table!
Sean and Tiana enjoy the pool at night. Even though it was in the 90s during the day, it cooled off a bit at night and the the heated water from the Hot Tub flowing into the pool kept it comfortable all evening!
The master bedroom opened right out on to the pool! Very nice!
Sean relaxes Monday afternoon.
We spent a couple hours at the Hoover dam which was about 20 minutes from the house. This picture shows some of the rugged area where the dam was built. Construction projects include a huge new bridge which will eliminate the need to drive over the dam itself.
The Hoover dam is well organized for visitors with quite a bit of new infrastructure. I was interested to learn that their primairy mission is water management and flood control and that electricity produced in the process is just a 'by product'!
It's big and impressive! We took the tour of the turbine room too!
We recruited a willing stranger to snap this picture. We walked across the dam and this was taken near the middle!
I am sure someone explained the function of these towers, I be 'dammed' if I can remember what they do!
This is a view upstream of the dam of Lake Meade. Some day I would like to rent a house boat and spend a few days here!
Somehow we talked Bette into a guided family ATV adventure in the desert. I love the desert and this was lots of fun riding through outcroppings and over rocky ridges.
If you know us I'll bet you never thought you'd see this! She was a great sport! (If you don't, take my word for it, this was remarkable!)
We stopped a couple of times and explored a bit on foor. Here Tiana relaxes, waiting perhaps for Sean to bring home the meat?
The contrast of the rocky ridge and blue sky is just one reason that I find the area so appealing...
Shortly after this picture was taken as I was following her, Allie dissapeared in a cloud of dust. When the dust cleared she was lying off the trail and her ATV was twisted in a barb-wire fence. A scary moment but she was shaken but mostly uininjured and we continued on to a Casino in the middle of the desert. Sean and Tiana continued and Bette, Allie and I had lunch!
On our way to the Grand Canyon we traveled a hundred miles on old Rt. 66. We stopped in Seligmen, AZ for lunch! This marker talks about the original Rt. 66.
The mannequins on top...not us! This gift shop/souvineer stand in Seligman is chock a block with stuff you won't find anywhere else! I have been here before on a 'Harley Ride' and everyone found it entertaining!
Next to the 'gift'shop was a run down park with an old band-stand. It had a picnic table so we took advantage of the seats and the shade to eat our lunch.
